Introduction

Brief History

Satcon is an ISO 9001 certified (2015) Design, Engineering and Consultancy firm based in Kolkata, India. It was established in the Year 2004. Initially the firm used to provide services in Indian projects, later from 2010 it started contributing in  Engineering Consultanting and Design services in EHV Power system Projects (Substations and Transmission Lines) in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Botswana, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UAE, USA, Qatar, Tanzania, Oman, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda, Namibia, Mozambique  and Zambia.

Methodology of Work

  • For Topo Contour Survey :
  • We perform Topographical contour survey of EHV substation plots, Transmission line routes and other large scale industrial projects. The survey is done using DGPS device with Laptop. The data collected during the survey is transferred to the Laptop and survey drawing with plan, profile, spot heights, topography is submitted to the Client for approval.
  • Geotechnical Investigation Tests :
  • Soil Investigations shall be executed with the following minimum requirements :
  • Boreholes down to 10-20 m, not exceeding 25 m or as per Client’s recommendation.
  • Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) at 1.00m intervals and at every change of strata in all boreholes.
  • Plate (and other approved) load bearing tests under shallow foundations.
  • Laboratory tests on the samples of each borehole.
  • Soil resistivity measurements.
  • Satcon will submit the detailed report wherein information regarding the geological detail of the site, summarized observations and test data, bore logs, and conclusions and recommendations on the type of foundations with supporting calculations for the recommendations. This report will also include the bearing capacity calculation

Detail Design & Engineering Services :

  • Electrical : The Design and Drawings are prepared in line with Client's Technical spec and the national / International standards mentioned in the Project Technical spec. When Client's spec is unavailable the Technical spec of various EHV equipment, controls, protections, cabling, lighting etc. are prepared on the basis of national/international standards and market availability of equipment and their ratings. Environmental, health and safety norms are mandatorily followed while preparing drawings for Utility and Industries.

  



Methodology of Work (Contd.)

  •  Structural steel : Steel supports for various Gantry towers, Transmission towers, Beams, Equipment support structures are designed on the basis of different loading acting on the Structures - such as wind, conductor tension, short circuit forces, live load and dead loads of equipment. Structural analysis is carried out in staad.pro software.   
  • Civil Foundations and Buildings : The foundations are designed on the basis of the equipment static and dynamic loading, resultant wind load, seismic zone and soil characteristics recommended in Geotechnical test report. The equipment / Structure mounting details plays an important role in deciding the pedestal and foundation types. Pile foundation, if recommended in Geotechnical report is used. Sub structure part of the foundation is designed using staad foundation software or MS Excel. The design calculations are done in line with Indian standards, BS, ACI or other standards recommended by the Client.
  • Quality Control : Quality of work is our key focus area. All designs and drawings are checked at three levels before these are passed on to the site team for Construction. The quality control is governed by ISO 9001 standard, 2015.
